keys, spanish and making our moms happy

My first post from Peru. We just finished our third day in the country and have spent most of our time trying to set up our apartment and working in the clinic. In between those times, we met a few chiropractors in the city, have eaten some good food and spent a lot of time trying to get very simple things done that should only take a few minutes. For example, Karen tried to get a few keys duplicated. But after 2 days, 3 trips, two different key stands and about 10 phone calls, we still don't have keys. The key stand reminds me a lot of Lucy (from Peanuts) and her "advice" or doctor stand, except the key-maker never is in.

Anyway, it's been a great start with many small adventures - practicing Spanish, not sure what we are ordering when we go to eat, trying to set up things at our apartment, trying to figure out how to get online - but the most exciting thing was when one of the two of us forgot to enter the alarm code in the allotted time. It turns out, the security company is pretty darn snappy. They showed up at my door with in moments, which has kept me from falling asleep for the past two hours. Karen is delighted to know the security system actually works ... and I'm sure our mothers will be, as well.

Now that we are online and have internet service, although it's spotty, we'll try to keep things updated better.
