we're moving!

Here are three hints to help you guess where:

Hint #1. Look at the new blog header.

Hint #2. Es una país en donde la gente habla español.

Hint #3.

And the answer is...

PERU!

To be more specific, the city of Arequipa, Peru.

Ever since we got married five years ago, David and I have wanted to move to a Spanish speaking country. We love the Latin culture and the Spanish language -- and the warmer climate that is often associated with them! We have both traveled overseas quite a bit, and I have lived abroad, and we feel that these experiences have great potential to enrich our lives, teach us a lot about ourselves and others, and expand our way of thinking. Plus they’re just plain fun!

We visited Peru back in April 2008 to look at an opportunity to help start a chiropractic clinic in Arequipa, and we just loved it. We loved the country, the city, the people we’d be working with, the climate, the food--almost everything! We wanted very much to go, but after several months of trying, just could not work things out on our end. We notified the owner of the clinic that he would need to find someone else, and then we collapsed on our bed and cried.

Once we rebounded from our disappointment, we continued looking for other opportunities. But our experience in Peru was never far from our minds, and we often commented to each other: “What if they contacted us again to come to Peru?”

In September 2010, they did! The chiropractor who is currently running the clinic (Quiropractica Borjesson) needs to return home to the States, and David will be taking over from her. I don’t yet know what I’ll be doing--a prospect that is both frightening and exciting!

We plan to leave mid-March and stay in Peru for at least one year, with the possibility of staying longer if all is going well.

We’ll do our best to keep this blog fresh as we prepare to leave and throughout our time in Peru, so please stay connected with us during our Peruvian adventure!
